The Shambles, York Minster Monastery, St. Mary's Abbey ruins, Abbot House & more.
- We arrived at the Churchill after a comfortable coach ride and two stops.
- Took a short orientation walk through York, then had a few hours before heading off to an Indian Restaurant. The food was divine--Make sure to try everything!
- The oldest street is known as the Shambles with shelved store fronts below the glass and meat hooks above.
- Shambles Street was the scene of the meat industry. Blood of slaughtered animals ran red and drained below. Can't imagine that.
- Shambles: Home of St. Margaret Clitherow (sainted in 1970) who was crushed with a door for hiding a priest during the Reformation.
- Had relaxing pint at the Golden Fleece, friendly local crowd. Headed to York Minster for the Evensong Choir.
- Plenty of ghost stories in this ancient town, we skipped the many "Ghost Tours". Remember to hover over gallery photos for caption.
